Allen was ranked 13th in the Money Magazine list of the "Best Places to Live in
2009." Allen, Texas, in Collin county, is 6 miles North of Plano (center to center)
and 22 miles North of Dallas. The city is regarded as a suburb of Dallas. It's

Allen History
The Caddo and Comanche Indians were the original inhabitants. Non-natives began to
arrive in the 1840's and the Indians moved westward as the settlers arrived. Allen
was part of the Peter's Colony Land Grant. The city was named in tribute to
Ebenezer Allen, a former Attorney General for the state of Texas. In 1872 the
Houston and Texas Central Railroad arrived. One of the first Texas train robberies
occurred in Allen in 1878. The city was incorporated in 1953. Beginning with the
late 1960's the population increased substantially.
